#f1 #art Today would have been Ayrton Senna's 51st birthday (Born 21st March 1960). The Brazilian took three World Champtionships with McLaren in 1988, 1990 and 1991 and had a record 65 pole positions. His life ended tragically at the third race of the 1994 season at Imola. Senna's helmet was Yellow (or fluorescent yellow, when his lotus was with the JPS Livery) with a Dark green stripe and a Navy blue stripe running from the visor across the helmet- a reference to the national colours of Brazil. This wonderful painting by renown motoring and aviation artist Keith Woodcock is a tribute to this great racing driver.

#poster #f1 #motoring Won by Jim Clark for Lotus by over a minute after leading from pole position to the finish. Tony Maggs was second for Cooper and Graham Hill third for BRM. Clark also took fastest lap (2:21.6). Jim Clark went on to win 7 of the 10 races that season and be crowned World Champion. Here we have an original poster for the event. Officially named: 49e Grand Prix de l'A.C.F. Michel Beligond (1927-1973) produced yet another stunning piece of artwork for this poster. This day 38 years ago (1972) Crystal Palace held it's last race meeting: Original Poster for the 1957 Whit Monday meeting featuring great Lotus XI artwork by Raymond Groves. Well, it's been a few weeks since our last post what with exhibitions and holidays it's all been quite busy!  Here's a new piece of art to start you off... Jim Clark was leading the 1967 Italian Grand Prix at Monza after starting from pole in his Lotus 49 when a tyre punctured. He lost an entire lap while having the wheel changed in the pits. Rejoining sixteenth, Clark ripped back through the field, progressively lowering the lap record and eventually equalling his pole time of 1m 28.5s, to regain the lost lap and the lead. He was narrowly ahead of Brabham and Surtees starting the last lap, but his car had not been filled with enough fuel for such a performance: it faltered, and finally coasted across the finish line in third place. Jim Clark is shown at this race in this wonderful Gouache, ink and watercolour painting by well known AFAS member Craig Warwick which measures 49.4 x 42cm.

It measures 140 x 100cm. Starting from Pole position John Surtees driving for Ferrari was to retire on lap 16 with a blown engine. Leaving Jim Clark to win for Lotus and become World Champion with 3 races still left to run. Richie Ginther and Bruce McLaren made up the podium.

Showing his watercolour paintings for the first time at Race Retro, Tony Simmonds will be represented within the exclusive Historic Car Art Gallery. Tony is no stranger to automotive illustration having done magazine illustrations of the subject as long ago as the late 1970's. In this painting the Ferrari of 4th placed Clay Regazzoni leads the Lotus-Ford of Jacky Ickx around Mirabeau during the 1974 Monaco Grand Prix. A limited edition print of this painting will be shown alongside original works by this artist.
