AeroShell Alfa Romeo Poster from 1933

Image
Sorry for the radio silence. July was a busy month, culminating with a successful Silverstone Classic; Thank you to all our customers who visited. We were closed for the first two weeks of August, now back to catch up and prepare for Goodwood Revival on 16-18th September... What's new? Well quite a lot. We'll kick off with this great AEROSHELL poster from the earlier 1930's celebrating Alfa Romeo's Grand Prix victory at Picardie, France in 1933. No graphics, just wonderful period typesetting and of course the very recognisable AeroShell logo. Held on 21 May 1933 this was the 9th running of the event. Phillippe Etancelin won from pole position by 3 minutes from Raymond Sommer (also Alfa Romeo) and Marcel Lehoux driving a Bugatti T51. This original poster measuring 58.5 x 79.5 cm is in excellent condition and is linen mounted.

New Vintage Poster Art by Bill Philpot

Image
#motoring #art These are worth a look... As you know we specialize in original vintage posters and don't much care for reproductions. But...these are not reproductions of old posters, they are new contemporary artistic creations with style cues taken from the poster artists and art of the 1920's and 30's. They work very well. After leaving school Bill Philpot pursued a long and highly successful career as a commercial artist working in London on many of the British advertising industry’s major award winning campaigns. But now he has turned his attention back to subjects which he finds more challenging. Bill has long been an admirer of the graphics and typography of that wonderfully creative period of the nineteen twenties and thirties, particularly the work of the great poster designers like A. M. Cassandre, Charles Loupot and George Hamel (Geo Ham) in Europe, Frank Newbould and Tom Purvis in England. In the late nineteen eighties Bill was commissioned by Christi...

Spanish Grand Prix - Montjuïc Circuit nr. Barcelona

Today I have this great original poster for the 1969 race at Montjuïc. It seems that, like yesterdays race, it was another dull Spanish Grand Prix. Jackie Stewart won, finishing two laps ahead of second placed Bruce McLaren! The race was held here again in 1971 - Jackie Stewart took his third straight victory. This time by only 3 seconds from Jackie Ickx Ferrari. This race was the first Formula One race to use slick tyres (Firestones). In this painting by Tony Simmonds the No. 4 Ferrari of Belgian Jacky Ickx chases the winning No.11 Tyrell-Ford of Jackie Stewart...
