"Marmon Wasp" by John Ketchell Held on May 30 1911 the first Indianapolis 500-Mile Race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was a departure from the usual policy of holding a number of smaller racing meets during 1909 and 1910 racing seasons. The single, large-scale event attracted widespread attention from both American and European racing teams and manufacturers. Despite the controversy surrounding the result when second placed Ralph Mulford protested claiming he had lapped Harroun when the Marmon limped into the pits on a torn tire, it was by far and away the most sucessful event held to date. #motoring #art #ferrari Won by the Porsche 910/8 of Paul Hawkins and Rolf Stommelen, the early pace was set by the beautiful Ferrari 330P4 of local hero Nino Vaccarella and Ludovico Scarfiotti with Vaccarella setting a fastest practice lap of 37 minutes and 12 seconds. Unfortunately Vaccarella was to crash out on the first race lap of the event... Targa Florio 1967 - The Nino Vaccarella / Ludovico Scarfiotti Ferrari 330P4. Ninian Sanderson and Ron Flockhart drive the Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar D-type to victory by one lap from the Aston Martin DB3S of Stirling Moss and Peter Collins. This lithographic poster was commissioned by Dunlop France to celebrate the victory. It is on much higher quality, heavier paper than was traditionally used for advertising and race posters and the colours were (and remain so) absolutely fantastic. It measures 80 x 40cm and is now a rare item, especially in this mint condition. It is, of course, available to purchase at Historic Car Art .
