La Royale - Arch de Triomphe, Paris Poster C1930

Wow! What a way to advertise your brand of headlights. They certainly knew how to get your attention in those days. Ummm... I know let's stick a huge headlight on top of the Arch de Triomphe and having it glaring out across Paris! Fantastic.
This poster dates from sometime in the late 20's to early 30's and is in perfect condition, the colours are fabulous. It's a good size too at 120 x 80cm. If you want some great Art Deco advertising art for your wall then look no further!

Motoring Art Etchings

An etching is no ordinary print. It is a time consuming and skilled art. Very few motoring artists work in this medium, the examples here are by Peter Hearsey - well known to Goodwood goers as the artist behind all of the Festival of Speed posters since the first event. To produce each etching, a metal (usually copper) plate is covered with a waxy ground which is acid-resistant. The artist then scratches off the ground with a pointed etching needle where he wants a line to appear in the finished piece, so exposing the bare metal. The plate is then dipped in a bath of acid, technically called the mordant (French for "biting") or etchant. The acid "bites" into the metal, where it is exposed, leaving behind lines in the plate. The remaining ground is then cleaned off the plate. The plate is inked all over, and then the ink wiped off the surface, leaving only the ink in the etched lines. Monaco 33-10 by Klaus Wagger

Well known Austrian artist Klaus Wagger will be another artist joining at Race Retro later this week. In this painting entitled "Monaco 33-10" the Bugatti T51 of Achille Varzi and the Alfa Romeo Monza of Tazio Nuvolari do battle. Varzi was to win the race; Nuvolari retired with a blown engine.
