Aston Martin's Last Great Victory - Monza 1963

Image
Roy Salvadori in the Aston Martin P214 leads Mike Parkes in the Ferrari 250GTO during the Coppa Inter-Europa at Monza in September 1963. Lap after lap the pair battled for the lead, rarely more than a second apart. Finally, Salvadori pulled away to win by seconds. This was the last great victory for David Brown's Aston Martins. This lithographic print from the painting by Keith Woodcock is long out of print - it was signed by Sir David Brown and Roy Salvadori... We have one copy, an artist's proof. Hurry!

Grand Prix de Paris 1965 Poster

Image
This lovely poster arrived at our gallery this week. Great image for this French race using only the colours of the Tricolor, oh and black... This was a Formula 3 race and was held at  Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry just outside Paris. The race was won by Briton Charles Crichton-Stuart driving a Brabham BT-10 entered by Stirling Moss Auto Racing Team (S.M.A.R.T. ?? :-))...

"Four Ever Alfa" by Sheridon Davies.

Image
The Alfa Romeo 158/159, also known as the Alfetta was one of the most successful racing cars ever produced. It won it's first race in 1938 and was still winning in 1953! In "Four Ever Alfa" by Sheridon Davies the team cars are seen in the paddock at the British Grand Prix in May 1950 where they took the first three places. Giuseppe Farina (No.2) won, Luigi Fagioli (No.3) 2nd and British guest driver Reg Parnell (No.4) 3rd. Car No.1 driven by Juan Manuel Fangio retired. Farina went on to win the first Drivers' World Championship in 1950. Fangio and Fagioli took second and third places. NEW : Available as a limited edition print .

Spanish Grand Prix - Montjuïc Circuit nr. Barcelona

Image
Today I have this great original poster for the 1969 race at Montjuïc. It seems that, like yesterdays race, it was another dull Spanish Grand Prix. Jackie Stewart won, finishing two laps ahead of second placed Bruce McLaren! The race was held here again in 1971 - Jackie Stewart took his third straight victory. This time by only 3 seconds from Jackie Ickx Ferrari. This race was the first Formula One race to use slick tyres (Firestones). In this painting by Tony Simmonds the No. 4 Ferrari of Belgian Jacky Ickx chases the winning No.11 Tyrell-Ford of Jackie Stewart...

The First Monaco Grand Prix 1929

Image
Next weekend is the F1 Monaco Grand Prix. Like many European races, the Monaco Grand Prix predates the current World Championship. The principality's first Grand Prix was organised in 1929 by Anthony Noghès, under the auspices of Prince Louis II, through the Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM). Alexandre Noghès, Anthony's father, was founding president of the ACM, originally named Sport Vélocipédique Monégasque. The ACM made their first foray into motorsport by holding the Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo in 1911. In 1928 the club applied to the Association Internationale des Automobiles Clubs Reconnus (AIACR), the international governing body of motorsport, to be upgraded from a regional French club to full national status. Their application was refused due to the lack of a major motorsport event held wholly within Monaco's boundaries. The rally could not be considered as it mostly used the roads of other European countries. William Grover-Williams at the 1929 Monaco Grand Pr
