Targa Florio 1964 Painting Tony Simmonds

This latest watercolour by Tony Simmonds beautifully depicts the pits at the 48th Targa Florio. The eventual winning Porsche 904GTS of Colin Davis and Antonio Pucci is parked alongside the Scuderia Filipinetti entered Ferrari 250 GTO. Watercolour on paper. Targa Florio 1970 Original Poster

The Targa Florio was started in 1906 by the wealthy pioneer race driver and automobile enthusiast, Vincenzo Florio. The 1970 race saw the fastest ever lap of the 45 mile road circuit. In practice Leo Kinnunen lapped in Porsche 908 in 33m 36secs (average speed of 79.9mph).
