HISTORIC CAR ART

Stuart Spencer will be exhibiting with us at Race Retro for the first time. With a background at Jaguar Cars as Design Studio Manager it's no surprise that many of his paintings feature the marque. This surf scene is something a little different (although still featuring a Jag!).... In the early 60s a Ford "Woody" with four surfers pulls into Stokers surf shop in Southern California and are greeted by the sight of a beautiful young lady strapping her new surf board into her mildly customised Mark IV Jaguar. One of the surfers runs over to 'chat up' the girl whilst his surf buddies watch with amusement. Staff and customers in the shop also take an interest from the shadows.

This year is 100 years of Alfa Romeo. The marquee will be celebrated at this years Race Retro show where Historic Car Art has a large exclusive gallery area. This poster for the 1972 European Touring Car Championship race at the Nurburgring has a great Alfa image. Simple colours and design make this poster striking. It must have been well liked as we have examples from 1971 and 1970 too!

Here is another one of F rançois Chevalier's wonderful little ink sketches.... The 1938 Mille Miglia - the Alfa Romeo 8C-2900B of Carlo Pintacuda. Pen / ink and watercolour wash on paper. 32 x 24cm (approx).

Worldwide renown aviation artist Keith Woodcock will be showing some of his wonderful motoring art at Race Retro with Historic Car Art. His work will also be available from the Historic Car Art Gallery. Here's a sneak preview... "Midnight at Merchiston Mews" - Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar C-type (053) which finished 4th in the Buenos Aires 1000km race in 1954 driven by Ninian Sanderson and Ian Scott-Douglas. Oils on Linen Canvas 24" x 16" Framed 30" x 22".

Showing his watercolour paintings for the first time at Race Retro, Tony Simmonds will be represented within the exclusive Historic Car Art Gallery. Tony is no stranger to automotive illustration having done magazine illustrations of the subject as long ago as the late 1970's. In this painting the Ferrari of 4th placed Clay Regazzoni leads the Lotus-Ford of Jacky Ickx around Mirabeau during the 1974 Monaco Grand Prix. A limited edition print of this painting will be shown alongside original works by this artist.

An artist new to exhibiting in the UK is Paul Chenard. He will be represented at Race Retro by Historic Car Art showing alongside some of Europe's finest. This pencil and pastel drawing shows Fangio, Farina and Ascari during the 1951 Italian Grand Prix at Monza and will be one of the original pieces on show by this artist.

A new painting by John Ketchell entitled "Snow Drift" will be shown for the first time at Race Retro in March. The Audi Quattro is one of the celebrated models at this years event... 1986 Monte Carlo Rally - the Audi Quattro Sport S1 of Stig Blomqvist and Bjorn Cederberg. Acrylic on Canvas 38" x 26"

We have half of the entire "Artist's Area" at Race Retro (Historic Motorsport Show) this year. It will be an exclusive open plan gallery for the best invited motoring artists.
